Info/Announcements: JOBS/ INTERNSHIPS

Faculty Position at Mayborn School of Journalism
University of North Texas
Strategic Communications – Public Relations

It is never too soon to start preparing for the job market. First-year students or seniors can benefit from the following advice. Connect as soon as possible. Join a student club or organization that has ties with your chosen profession. The experience can give you a head start in finding that job you've always dreamed about. Club membership offers you the opportunity to network with other students, faculty and staff from the university. All these people have contacts that could potentially help you as you search for that important internship or job.

Volunteer with a nonprofit organization. This is another way to establish a network. You will be able to work on projects that will strengthen your skills and allow you to rub shoulders with influential people. Many students have been able to explore new career options as a result of their volunteer work.

Get to know your professors. When you are asked to supply letters of reference, this final piece of advice is critical. Professors will gladly write letters for those students who have gone the extra mile. Invest yourself today for dividends tomorrow.

The Career Center at UNT is a great resource for assisting students. Check out the special events, training sessions, and job listings at http://careercenter.unt.edu/index.html. Alumni may also use the center.
